..to clean or not to clean

I have to finish cleaning this house by Wednesday….I’m getting closer to being done. Do I really want to clean today or do I want to lie around and be lazy…thinkin, thinkin, thinkin….

Just a thought but this blog needs pictures….sorry folks! but pictures are out for the time being. It takes too long to upload with this laptop. I’d be here thru next week waiting for things to upload.

Next week.. I really want to be in my home state of Tennessee visiting relatives, sleeping in late, and being woken by freshly baked biscuits and gravy.

….I have decided to finishing cleaning the kitchen and my bathroom and spend the rest of the day watchng movies…maybe!.. Maybe I should just play things by ear. Maybe I will just clean the kitchen…blog surf and watch a movie. I need a cup of coffee.

The Medicine Cabinet

So I have been cleaning this house for nearly a week. I’m still not done. This house has been very lived in for the last 4 years. Anyway, the topic of the day is my medicine cabinet. I know people usually keep these things in the bathroom but ours has been in the kitchen right above the stove. We have accumulated more drugs in this cabinet than should be allowed by any one family. Good gosh it is taking for ever to clean out. It wouldn’t be so hard if I could just chuck everything into the trash but I am thinkin this wouldn’t be a good idea. So I set out on my task of dumping the stuff down the sink or rather the garbage disposal.

some of the things in my medicine cabinet that I have thrown away include: old anitbiotics- a very lovely assortment, old caugh syrup, old eye drops, old nose drops, old stomach medicine….I have no idea why some of this stuff is even around….old bandaids, old thermomenters—digital, not the mercury kind…..suntan lotion, lighter fluid, an old first aid kit-it was empty….old muscle relaxers, old pain meds-can’t remember the names…a spoon, old store receipts…and the list could go on and on,.

some of the things I saved…blood pressure cuff, Morgan’s inhalers- I thought this might be important…a bottle of tylenol and a bottle of motrin.

T.L.F.

We are moving into the base T.L.F. today. TLF stands for Temporary Living Facility. Kind of sounds like we are being incarcerated doesn’t it? We will be staying in the TLF until I can finish getting this house cleaned up and painted in a few places. I am almost done. I just need to get all of the kids out of my hair so that I can finish with everything I need to do. I work best without distraction. There is only one major problem with the TLF it doesn’t have high speed internet. Everybody say boooooo!!!!!!! None of my kids want to go to the TLF because they won’t have internet access. I’m not paying for dial-up. They will have to deal with only watching TV. Of course, I will still have the internet until I turn this house over to the owner. 🙂 Sometimes I love the perks of being a parent.

Shameless Self Promotion

This is directed at those of you with nothing better to do over the summer. Jump over to my serial fiction blog or as some people would call it a “Blook”. You can read or listen to Madie’s Bear Tribe Journals. I have been writing and podcasting this story for two years. The podcast isn’t professional quality but it is a podcast which makes me very cool!!! :)  All the pictures drawn in the story are done by me. I have limited drawing skills but hey you can tell they are people and things. 🙂
Madie’s Bear Tribe Journals is a story written as a personal diary. Madie and her friends live in an alternate reality where there are no adults. This is Madie’s view of the world around her.

Also this story is loosely based off of a television show out of New Zealand called The Tribe. I have my own setting, my own story and my own characters. You can look at my story as a spinoff of the television series. My webpage link has been added to some of the best American sites on The Tribe

Father’s Day

Today is Father’s Day.

I have been extremely luckily. There are two men in my life that are great fathers. My own father has always been wonderful. I think he has always loved being a father. I don’t remember my father never being there and supporting me in what ever it was that I was doing at the time. Happy Father’s Day Dad!
I know my husband loves being a father. My children should consider themselves lucky to have a Dad that is so loving. My husband loves his children deeply. My husband grew up without a father in his life. He only had uncles as role models. These uncles of course were great fathers too! I think my husband learned his fathering skills from his uncles but I also think he made a conscious effort to be a great Dad. My husband knew from the start what he didn’t want to be like. He didn’t want to be like his own father who was never there. Happy Father’s Day Ken. You are a wonderful Dad.

…but I have a sleeping problem

The big truck took all of our stuff away yesterday. Nothing left in this house but a small tv, a laptop computer and eight bedrolls. We will spend the next week cleaning, painting…and eating fast food.
I have a funny story to tell. We had four computers hooked up to the internet. The movers took them all. We decided to hold back one of our laptop computers and take it on vacation with us. This means we (all 8 of us) have to take turns on this one computer. The rule is “The first one awake gets the computer. Computer use for the day is determined by the order in which you woke up in the morning. Everyone gets an hour.”

Yesterday everyone was awake except for “the Morgan” . We tried to get her sleepy little butt out of bed several times. Morgan asked if she could play on the computer after she was awake. I said “No” everyone else was getting a chance first.

The drama queen or as we like to call her “The Morgan” brings forth the tears in an oscar winning performance and announces that it’s not fair because she has a sleeping problem. Not unlike the tearful and pitiful excuses at an Alcoholics Anonamous meeting “the Morgan” continues with her explanation by explaining that her need to stay up late has made it necessary for her to sleep in. My dear beautiful Morgan wanted me to let her cut line and get on the computer early…..I didn’t happen. I made her wait her turn. It pained me but I held my ground and the democratic way of the Loftis family.

All packed up

It took a couple of days but my entire house is in boxes. Except for the stuff that was in my daughters dresser that didn’t get packed and the front closet off of the livingroom that didn’t get packed. the movers ensure us that this stuff will be packed tomorrow morning after the big truck arrives to take my stuff away.

I have been cleaning my little heart out.  Unfortunately when I clean I get a little irritable. My kids are walking on egg shells.

We kept a laptop computer out so that I can have access to the internet.  I can’t promise to be on regularly but if I have a moment or two I will try to post.

I will let you know how tomorrow goes,… later.

The movers arrive today

Sometime between 8am and 5pm tonight the movers should arrive and start packing up our stuff. For the next three days our home will be invaded by strangers. On Friday the big truck will arrive and our things will be loaded onto the truck. I have no idea when this computer will be packed up. It will be either today, tomorrow or thursday. So just incase I don’t get to signon again. Everyone have a happy and safe summer.

Todays chores

Today I unplug my refrigerator and clean it out. This should be fun. (anyone want to do this particular chore for me? )
I have a bazillion knick knacks to wash and prepare for packing.

I need to finish cleaning out my closet.

I need to wash all of the linens in the house and finish with the rest of the laundry.

I have to sort thru the clothes that my children will be taking on vacation. (Which reminds me. Everyone needs new underware and socks. )

I need to move furniture and sweep and vacuum under everything. (I don’t want any surprises when the movers start moving things)

This is just the beginning.

The Outback and the wonderful people there

I know you don’t always find wonderful people at a restaurant but tonight was the exception.

Tonight was my going away party at the Outback. Many of my friends were there. (i.e.: Cathy G., Kathy R., Courtney, Crissy, Nancy, Raychelle, Priscilla and their significant others and spouses) It was a lovely party. I received a beautiful card and a lovely necklace which I will cherish for ever.

I liked my job in the NBICU, although at times it was extremely stressful. I know everyone thinks I have lots of patience and self control but I don’t. On more than one occasion I considered drop kicking a visitor into the next department or at least saying a string of dirty words that would make a sailor blush.

I think I liked my friends that I met there more than the job actually. The NBICU is filled with wonderful hardworking people. I wish you all well.

Be good, Be Safe and stay out of trouble. Remember to say NO to drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, don’t pick up hitch-hikers, accept unmarked packages or watch a stranger’s luggage while they go to the bathroom.

Your Friend

Marsha

PS: My intention was not to leave out my friends who attended my going away luncheon on Wednesday. Merlene, I always enjoyed working with you. We worked well together. Julia, You are a great nurse. I love your smile and the nice way you treat people even on the worst of days. Angela, you are also a great nurse and you are so sweet. Don’t let those mean old secretaries scare you. 🙂

Housing Inspector

The housing inspector comes by today at 2pm to inventory our household goods. It only takes a few minutes. They just need to know how big of a truck to bring on Tuesday. I will be spending all morning trying to neatly stack and categorize stuff.  With the help of my five children we will write down every thing we own. We have already taken everything off the walls and everything out of wall units. I have stacks of stuff (ie; video games, cd’s, DVD’s, records, pictures, vhs tapes, books, and knick knacks) lined up against practically every wall in my house. Geesh!! you would not believe the stuff. Every child in my house collects something.

Did I mention after Tuesday I will not have a computer? It’s going to kill me. My computer is my friend.

Day 2 in Phoenix

I woke up at 5:30am because I couldn’t sleep from all the sneezing and hacking up phlem I was doing. My poor husband. I don’t think he is doing much sleeping either. After all, he is sleeping next to the plague. 🙂

This little three day vacation was our attempt to have a little alone time away from the kids. Which is why we didn’t bring any of them along on this house hunting adventure. Have I mentioned my new nightgown? 🙂 I had to mark “french kissing” off my list of things to do on this vacation. It’s just not going to happen.

Sorry sometimes I ramble a bit. So, I woke my husband up at 07:30am. He showered and we went down to our free breakfast. While at breakfast this little 10 year old kid bumps into my husband about five times before my husband has the chance to fill his plate with a continental breakfast. Drop kicking a strangers child isn’t an option so my husband smiled and sat down at the table beside me. We were hoping the childs wild behavior would continue out by the pool and the child would fall in and receive a good dunking. 🙂 didn’t happen but it was a nice thought.

Our visit to the housing referral office on base was a waste of time. The nice old lady wasn’t allowed to tell us anything except that she had a list of three bedroom houses for rent we could look at. This was nice and all but we have five children, four of those are teenagers, two of those are in college. We can’t fit into a three bedroom house. 🙂 My husband and I asked about crime in certain areas and how are the schools. The lady couldn’t say anything like that because she didn’t want to be sued. She suggested we call the local community desk at the police department.

We went house hunting. The first house was nice, it had a lovely loft with two built in computer desks and room for a big screen tv and a pool table but unfortunately the bedrooms were tiny. The masterbedroom was so little only our bed would have fit into the room but Hey!!! it had a real nice bathroom and walk in closet.

The second and third houses we looked at were nice and big but they were way, way, way out past the industrial park. It was just too far to travel and they weren’t near any shopping of any kind. They were very nice homes though.

The fourth house….First we had to wait in the driveway an hour four the owner to show up. It was a really, really big house, the bedrooms were huge, all the rooms had walk in closests, The masterbedroom, the masterbedroom was grande. 🙂

What was wrong with this house you ask? Nothing! It was in a decent location, near shopping, not too far away from the base, the rent was a hundred dollars more a month than we wanted to pay but we could deal. The problem with this house was the owner. He scared me. He looked like a rap artist(nice gold cross around his neck) but claimed to own a convenience store. He had bought the house for his parents but they decided Phoenix was just too hot. So he rented it out to friends who destroyed the place and disappeared suddenly, then he rented the place out to a single mom, rent free for six months, he was doing her a favor. Here’s the kicker. He had already received a deposit from someone else but he couldn’t get a hold of them. Apparently, they moved from their old address and their phones are now disconnected. He said he has tried to get in touch with them but that they are no where to be found. The house was suppose to be turned over to them last week but they have not showed up. I’m not sure what exactly is going on with that property but I’m thinking renting from that particular person is not a wise decision. Any thoughts on the matter from you guys? Should we notify Judge Judy?
Marsha

PS, heaven help me I still have this head cold.

Day 1 in Pheonix

After arriving in Phoenix yesterday afternoon we moved into our room at the hotel and then went looking for walmart. I was in desparate need of sinus headache medicine. I have a horrible head cold, congestion and a headache. (I swear some higher being is playing with me trying to see how complicated they can make this house hunting adventure.) I look as if I have the plague. Red watery eyes, red nose, hacking cough and I can’t stop sneezing. We didn’t find walmart but we did run into a shopping center with target, barnes and noble, bed and bath, pets smart, best buy, linens and things and about a dozen other stores. We went shopping for sinus medicine at Target (By the way, the Target pharmacist was really nice and helpful. She jumped out from behind that counter the moment she saw the condition I was in and started pointing out the good drugs)

After purchasing my needed drugs we went to eat dinner at a chineese restaraunt. (I don’t think they appreciated me standing over their buffet. Hey, I tried not to sneeze or cough directly over the food. 🙂 )

After dinner we went looking at houses, really the neighborhoods the houses were in. Scoping out areas of interest.
This morning we are going to go to breakfast and then to the base housing office where we hope to learn about areas we should stay away from when looking for a rental. We will also get a list of houses that are for rent that the base recommends as being reliable and safe. I’m hoping my state of health doesn’t sway someone from renting to us. Would you want the plague to move into your neighborhood? 🙂
Marsha

PS: I need a new nose. The one I have is sore.

I’m sick….I need sympathy…and better drugs, the ones I’m using aren’t helping

I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat. I went to work any way. It was a long 12 hours. I didn’t sleep well last night. I think I woke up every hour. I woke up at 0430am this morning feeling absolutely awful. I can’t breath lying down. I called work and told them I couldn’t work today. My poor throat is so swollen, my lips are tingly, and I have a headache….Did I mention I am suppose to go to Phoenix and house hunt on Monday…Everybody pray I feel better by then.

Taylor or Kat

I watched American Idol last night. My personal opinion is that Taylor out sung Kat. I didn’t care for any of the songs that kat sang. I didn’t like her single at all. Of course, her nervousness could have been why it didn’t sound that great.

My fingers are crossed that Taylor wins tonight.  My husband thinks Kat is going to win. Of course, we have a small wager in place.
