Husbands…Gotta Luv um

This is just a little story that I find somewhat amuzing. I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, twelve hour shifts. I wake at 5am and leave my house at 6am and get home at 8pm. This enables me to be off MOnday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I wake up at 6am these days. I drink 2 cups of coffee, check my e-mail and occassionally websurf before I have to get the kids up for school. I never get to sleep in…..never, never, never. I wake the kids at 7am.

Because we are moving soon my husband took this week off. He slept in until 1100am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then I started thinking. “Hey, wait a minute. Why is he sleeping in?” After a short discussion, my husband graciously said I could sleep in on Thursday. He would get the kids ready for school. I was thrilled. The thought of sleeping in sounded heavenly.

Thursday morning the alarm clock goes off at 6am and up jumps my husband out of bed. I was astounded. I was so excited I couldn’t go back to sleep. My husband never just jumps out of bed. He is the kind of person who has to hit the snooze button at least three or four times. To make a long story short. My husband gets the kids off to school successfully without my help. I get out of bed at 730, grab a cup of coffee and go to the computer room to check my email. I couldn’t lay in the bed any longer. I wasn’t sleeping anyway. 🙂

The funny part. My husband woke up at 6am the kids didn’t have to get up until 7am. So for an hour my husband sat in the livingroom drinking coffee and watching CNN wishing he was still in bed. 🙂 He was afraid to come back into the bedroom when he realized it was only 6am. He was afraid I would accuse him of procrastinating. Yep! I have all the power.

  1. lol loved your post…yup, you sure gotta luv ’em!!! I don’t go out to work and yet I’m forever up by 5:30 or 6:00 a.m., no matter what time I went to bed the night before! Hate that inner alarm clock of mine!! Hubby needs to leave for work by 7:20 a.m…..his alarm clock goes off at 6:30…all i hear for the next half hour or so is him hitting the snooze button then more snoring. By 7:10 he’s jumping out of bed in a panic and gets ready…reminds me of the Blondie comic where you see Dagwood rushing out half dressed, coffee in hand, out the door to his ride lol.

  2. Lol…Pea…that is a funny thought.
Marsha…I worked for 11 years and when I moved to Ohio hubby said…you don’t have to work anymore so I’m retired…hurray!!
The thing is…I got up every morning at 5 am…still do even w/o an alarm clock…why is that…I can sleep in and still don’t…bummer!!!

  3. Hahaha,

Your stories are hysterical and so true. Once your body gets in a routine, it is practically impossible to make it change. We are indeed creatures of habit. I’m young, but I have to get up for work everyday at 6:00am, and now after a few years of this schedule, I get up at 6:00 am even on the weekends, I have lost the ability to sleep in, and it drives me crazy, I don’t have any kids.

  4. Haha Best ever!! That is great, this is telling. We women definitely have the power. Let the man *think* he has the power, but in reality a resounding NO. That’s cool though that he was willing to get up that early with no problems. I would have been hitting that snooze button over and over.

  5. Similar story to mine. Sometimes I am so tired I go to bed early, and tell Mr.C, who is a night owl, I am doing so, thinking, when he finally comes to bed, he will slide in gently and silently. Of course the opposite happens and from then on I am wide awake.
    Yep you gotta’ luv them!

  6. sorry about the delay in replying.

Pea, My husband usually jumps up in a panic too! He usually waits until the very last moment to get out of bed.

Jenna, It’s nice to know we have something in common. 🙂

Yaragirl, It’s true our bodies get used to doing something and it is hard to break the cycle

    Tam, Women Power!…Woot!!! LOL

Keewee, I rarely make it unitl 10pm. The thought of having to wake at 5 or 6 makes me crave sleep. My husband is also a night owl. It is not unusual for him to stay up unitl 1am which is why he hits the snooze alarm 3 or 4 times in the mornings.

Aaron, Believe it or not but I have never been treated to breakfast in bed. ..hmmmm! I might have to drop hints to the husband. 🙂

Joey, I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to go back to sleep. I really was looking forward to sleeping in to….at least 9am. Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂
