4th of July

it’s the 4th of July…and I have to work. I hope everyone out there has a safe and happy holiday. (just a note to all those travelers going thru Phoenix Skyharbor Airport…”You can not take fireworks onto an airplane.”) shesssshh!!

I spent my morning blog surfing again because the husband and three youngest children are out of town on a vacation. My mornings are free…and lonely. If you have time, jump over to the “Journal Comic “ it’s a fun read. I truly enjoyed.

….and For Fun…this is what I would look like if I was a Simpsons Character.

Ask me a question…anything you want…I will attempt to answer. I reserve the right to lie if need be. 🙂 You can make your Simpsons Character Here. Thanks to Tiny Voices in my Head For bringing this to my attention.

the Bathroom Monkey

The husband and my three youngest children should be having a great time in Tennessee right now….I spent the morning doing the laundry and blog surfing again (after taking “The Steph” to school) and ran across a blog called Gorilla sushi. I ran across this little video while reading the posts there.

Edit: I have been ill for three / four days, sore throat, runny nose, body aches. I just talked to my husband on the phone, He is in Tennessee on vacation visiting relatives. He is also feeling ill and had to go to the doctor today. He has strep throat and is feeling pretty awful. Not a good way to start a vacation.

Ok, this is just wrong…funny….but oh so wrong.

Question: “If I eat cookie dough ice cream for breakfast and put a banana on top does that count as being a healthy meal?” just wondering.

Digital Punch

It’s my day off. I have a long list of things I need/want to accomplish today

  1. Take “the Steph” to college ( I have to pick her up later too!) DONE
  2. Clean the kitchen (good gosh it’s a mess) DONE including cleaning out the microwave and refrigerator
  3. Go grocery shopping ( nothing to eat in this house) DONE
  4. Put money into Steph’s checking account (she needs to buy books) DONE
  5. Catch a movie, (haven’t decided which one, I will let you know) DONE Watched Ratatouille, it was just OK, a little slow in places.
  6. Watch Kyle XY (My newest favorite family TV show) DONE
  7. Buy clothes at Kohls (I start my new job as Watch Officer at the Security Operation Center for TSA on Sunday and have nothing appropriate to wear) NOT DONE saving for Saturday.
  8. Post my Podcast over at Madie:Life in Bear Country (Sort of Forgot I was suppose to do that) DONE

BUT….not wanting to start with those tasks too early in the morning I decided to blog surf instead….I ran across a website called Digital Punch TV Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Here is the link to their latest vlog I found this to be very entertaining…and we all know that I can be very picky about what I like and don’t like. 🙂

Abandoned or Am I on vacation too!!

My husband and my three youngest children are on their way to Tennessee for three weeks for a vacation. Me and my two oldest daughters were left behind. I have to work, Heather has to work and the Steph is in summer classes at college. I’m in an empty house. What to do? What to do? I’m thinkin of doing nothing but watching TV, going to the movies a few times, sleeping and surfing the internet. I’ll let you know.

I thought of sleeping in today. It didn’t happen, even though I worked overtime last night and didn’t get home until 12:30, I woke at 07:15. I still have my head-cold and an enormous headache. I have filled my body with drugs hoping to alleviate some of the symptoms. Today is my Friday at work. It’s suppose to be really busy today because of the 4th of July holiday. People will be trying to travel here and there.

I’m making a predictions that the number of bags with liquids in them will be greater than the number of bags without liquids in them. 🙂

I promised terminal 3 earlier in the week that I would work overtime tonight. I’m insane. I haven’t decided if I am really going to do it or not. I’m waiting to see how I feel.

I wanted to change my mind last night about working overtime but I felt guilty about saying “I’m going home because I am sick” after I had already promised earlier in the week that I would be there. It really wasn’t so bad, the overtime went quickly but the drive home was a bear. I was so “frickin” <–(alternative to a dirty word) tired. I sneezed nearly the entire 40 minutes home. It’s hard to stay between the lines when you can’t stop sneezing. 🙂

Sometimes I hate it that I can’t go back on my word as easy as other people do. I know I should just say “I’m not working today”…but I can’t.

The overtime pay is really nice but I feel absolutely horrible. <–(I wanted to say “I feel like sh*t” here) couldn’t do it. Dang it, I am never going to get this blog above a “G” rating. 🙂

People, Baggage and Germs

Good Gosh I have got another cold!!!!

Ok, I have come to the determination that the airport is a dirty, dirty, place. I’m not referring to the professional exotic dancers traveling to Las Vegas daily to work. (They must keep the planes pretty warm cause these girls don’t wear a lot of clothes).

I have to give them credit though because they are making the attempt to cover those enormous boobs with inky dinky shirts(I’ll tell you about the time I almost got my eye poked out another time) and covering their lower halves with micro-skirts(barely). Ever play “spot the thong”? Is she wearing one or not? 🙂

Sometimes a thousand people an hour travel through my checkpoint to get to their planes. People from all walks of life. It’s really quite interesting. My favorites are the self perceived good looking young men who flash their pearly whites and well defined muscles when they are running late hoping to cut to the front of the line…I’m immune to their charms but it is so fun to watch. 🙂

I have always been extremely healthy. I never get sick. I have had the occasional flu over the years but common colds and such just don’t effect me. That is until I started working at the airport. Who knows how many germs every day I am subject to but it must be in the millions (or billions). I come in contact with people from all over the world. I touch their persons and their belongings. Some of the people I pat down should truly be in quarantine.

I change my gloves and wash my hands many, many times a day. I don’t think changing my gloves is helping because someone is always sneezing on me, coughing on me and spewing hidden germs all over me. The germs are in the air. I can’t hide from them. I’m thinkin of wearing a chemical suit and gas mask to shield myself from these germs.

I have a headcold, watery eyes, stuffy nose and a few body aches. A few weeks ago I had a horrible stomach virus and a couple of weeks before that another ailment. I think I have been sick five or six times since November.

I’m also thinkin that I should be getting hazardous duty pay or at least some sort of innoculations!!!

PS: Ricardo I’m not attempting to increase my blog rating to at least a “PG” rating. I like my good girl image…really…I do.

the hair gel incident

People have bad days, I know this, I sometimes have bad days, we all have bad days. You were rude and unnecessarily violent. I politely gave you your options, check your bag in checked baggage, mail the hair gel back to yourself or surrender the hair gel to me. I really didn’t/don’t care that Chicago(or where ever you were coming from) didn’t have a problem with your hair gel. The rules state that containers over 3.4 ounces are not allowed in carryon luggage.

It doesn’t matter how much is in the container, or that you paid what you considered a lot of money for that hair gel.

To the man, who purposely pushed(flung) the gray bin across the table at me yesterday when I told him he couldn’t take his hair gel on the plane because the container was too large.

“I hope you are having a bad hair day today!!!”

Speed Racer

I grew up watching Speed Racer. Every morning before school I would turn on the TV, grab a bowl of cereal and watch Speed strut his stuff. I loved that cartoon.

Apparently, there is a Speed Racer movie in production. the film, hitting theaters May 9th, 2008 stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Kick Gurry, Paulie Litt, Roger Allam and Ji Hoon Jung.

The liquid ban

Anyone not know there is a liquid ban at the airport? Well, there is…..

To the very polite, smiling, already very inebriated man who brought the large bottle of Jack Daniels and a hundred tiny little bottles of various alcohols in a duffel bag to the check point. Just a small reminder, all liquids, creams, paste, jells and aerosols must be in containers of 3.4 ounces or smaller and placed in a quart size zip lock bag(not a duffel bag).

“ONLY ONE zip lock bag per person. <—(this is important) You must declare these items by removing the zip lock bag from your luggage and placing the zip lock bag in the bottom of a gray bin for x-ray.

In case you are wondering….

crown royal

The crown royal bottles were saved first and placed in the zip-lock baggie. 🙂 All others were surrendered by the passenger to TSA and disposed of properly.

The Phone Call – TSA

About a month ago I applied for a position at the SOC (Security operations center) at the Airport. There were two positions available. My friend Liz and I both applied hoping we would both get hired. My friend Liz did get hired I was so happy for her and a little disappointed I didn’t get hired too. I went back to doing my job at terminal C.

Day before yesterday I was at the ticket checker point at the front of the checkpoint checking tickets and IDs. My supervisor walks up behind me and says that I have a phone call……On my gosh!!! My heart was filled with panic. The first thought in my head was that something was horrible wrong at home…because no one calls me at work unless someone is dying. I said a dirty word and asked if they said who was hurt….my supervisor looked at me as if I was crazy..No one was hurt at home…..Apparently it was Roy, one of the three people that conducted the interview for the job at the SOC. He wanted to know if I still wanted the job….My answer was “Yes!!!!” when do I start?”

Then I started thinking….Whats up with the random phone call? because as far as I know my friend Liz still works at the SOC….did the other person not work out or did someone else vacate a position?…I’ll let you know…In the mean time, everyone say woot!!! because Marsha shall here by be known as Watch officer at the SOC.….starting on the 8th of July. :)

(T + A #13) Technology and the Arts

{cough, cough} A couple of weeks ago I was unexpectantly sent a myspace email….

Marsha,

I have been meaning to do this for some time, but I kept on getting sidetracked by one thing or another. {This so happens to me ie Marsha all the time }
Anyway, this is Brian from the Technology and the Arts podcast and I was wondering if you would be interested in doing an interview with us at some point in the future to discuss your podcast and your obvious interest in sci-fi. {ever see a grown 40 42 year old woman jump around excitedly}

(I see you are a Battlestar Galactica fan…out of curiosity, have you ever watched Doctor Who–either the “classic” series or the post-2005 version?) {I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of DR WHO but watch BSG everyweek}

Anyway, if you choose to do the interview, we can then figure out how to do it. The easiest way might be for me to send you the questions via a regular e-mail and then you can record your answers and save them as an mp3 file you can send back. I can “splice” in the audio for my questions later in the finished product. {I’m technically saavy…I could comply}

That’s how we did it when we had Gregg Taylor of Decoder Ring Theatre as a guest, and that seemed to work out rather well (although I let the fanboy in me get the better of my editing instincts on that one and let the interview go too long).

You can reply to me either through MySpace
Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Brian Kelley,
Technology and the Arts

I was excited about being asked to do an interview. No one has ever asked before…After the excitement wore off I started to feel a little worried about sounding stupid. I didn’t want the world to think I was strange or weird. I recorded my answers, and rerecorded and then recorded again. I had a slight head cold that day and every time I listened to what I had recorded all I could think about was that I sounded nasally. It was a little hard to breath and talk at the same time. My nose wasn’t cooperating. And also my headphones and audacity software were being bad. Things weren’t sounding as clear as they should on the recording and I couldn’t get the volume to increase. Ever wonder why things fall apart technically when you are trying to do something fun?

So….Here is the interview. My segment is at the end of the podcast. I hope you enjoy.

Brian and John, Thanks so much for inviting me to be on your show.

Can we film tomorrow

When I got home from work last night around 9:30pm Morgan my 7 year old asked if we could film today. I think she has acquired the acting bug… :) I have a couple of ideas in mind. One of which is the Heinz Ketchup commercial I have been meaning to make, the other is a story book. I will let you know. I have a ton of things to do today and I am not sure if I can fit it all in.

EDIT:

Today I have; a major headache, started the laundry, cleaned #4 daughter’s bedroom, attempted to fix vacuum cleaner, called every vaccum cleaner salesman in town to find a new belt for my vacuflow vacuum cleaner, ordered a new belt over the phone, Taken #2 daughter to college, picked up #2 daughter from college, took #2 daughter to talk to her academic advisor about graduating in the spring, and went grocery shopping for fruit.

I still have to: finish the laundery, pick up KFC and take my son to get a haircut.

I can’t find: the ac adapter for my sony camcorder. I am not happy because I had it just the other day. Why is it not with the camera? :( I’m thinkin gremlins) UPDATE: I found it.

I need: extra strength Tylenol and a couple more hours in this day.

Question: If this is my day off why am I working so dang hard?

And the conversation went

This is just going to be a quick synopisis of what happened. I can’t write all the dialog, well because it was just vulgar and lengthy.

TSO trainee and ME: ” You alarmed…please go back out and remove anything metal from your pockets. It might be your belt.

Man: {Much vulgarity and rudeness} “I’m taking my daughter to her plane….I’ve seen other people pass through after alarming. [no he hadn’t] “Not removing my belt…..get out of the way….my daughter is going to miss her plane.”

Me: {called for supervisor} passenger and father denied access until father decides to remove belt and be screened.

I swear some people have no clue!!!!!!!!! It was a belt, all he had to do was walk back out, remove the belt, put the belt in the xray machine and be on his way with his daughter. This man had major attitude issues. His daughter was crying because he was being rude and out of control. I felt sorry for her because all she wanted to do was catch her plane.

I had a dream

Ever have one of those dreams when you wake up and think “What the h*ll was that about?”

The Dream

Apparently in my dream I was employed and looking for another job. I was on the phone talking to someone that wanted me to fax over a copy of the keys. I didn’t know what keys I was suppose to be faxing but I was trying to be quiet about it and not draw attention to myself. I couldn’t understand the fax number and kept asking the woman on the other end of the phone to repeat the number. I could only understand 453 and then garbble, garbble garbble. It was frustrating.

Also, the job I was working at required me to tie people up. I don’t know why I was tying people up. I was attempting to tie up this teenage girl and not doing a very good job at it. A coworker comes into the room and asks me if I put on the sweetbands because I forgot to do that the last time I tied someone up. I didn’t know what she was talking about and besides I couldn’t find the rope I was suppose to be using. The coworker then tells me to be careful because I left cuts on the last person I tied up. I asked the girl I was tying up if her parents knew she was being tied up. The girls looks at me as if I am crazy and says “NO”. Why would she want to tell her parents? I didn’t know but I couldn’t help think that maybe she should tell them.

Anyway, the new job keeps calling still needing those keys faxed over. I still can’t understand the fax number. I didn’t know what keys they were talking about but apparently they had sent the keys to me and needed them back. I couldn’t figure out how to fax keys.

I woke with a slight headache.

Someone please tell me I’m not going insane. :)

And the conversation went

It’s time for another “And the conversation went”

The following customer is hugely pregnant and obviously smokes because cigarettes and a lighter were in her purse. She also smelled as if she had just recently lit up. Not that it matters but it helps knowing a little background.

Mag operator: “Female additional, no alarm”

Me: “Hello, ma’am, you have been selected for additional screening. Have you ever done this process before?”

customer: “No, I am just picking up a friend. I’m not getting on the plane”

Me: “Let me explain what we are going to do. I’m going to give you a limited patdown of your arms, sides, stomach, back and legs. We do the patdowns right here out in the open. Do you want a more private screening?

customer: “NO, what ever”

Me: “and then I’m going to run a quick test on your purse and shoes. “

customer: “OK”

Me: {the passenger was given a quick patdown} There, that wasn’t so bad, was it?”

customer: {doesn’t seem traumatized by the experience} “Nope”

Me: {looks into the passenger’s purse and finds a lighter} “I’m sorry ma’am but you can’t take this lighter into the checkpoint”

customer: {suddenly, irrate and not happy} “Why not? I’m not getting on the plane. I’m just picking up my friend.”

Me: {attempting to be polite} “I’m sorry but lighters are not allowed. Would you like me to walk you back out of the checkpoint so that you can put the lighter in your car or hand it off to someone else?”

customer: {more mad} “NO!! There is no one here with me. It’s a long walk back to my car….”

Me: {still practicing patience} “The lighter is not allowed in the checkpoint. You can surrender the lighter to me or go back out and put the lighter in your car”

customer: {yelling} “this is degrading…It’s a f*cking lighter…not a gun!!!! I am being harrassed. “

Me: {was going to call supervisor but he was already standing behind me}

Supervisor: {very stern} “Ma’am if you don’t calm down. I’m having you escorted out of the checkpoint. THE LIGHTER IS PROHIBITED!”

customer: {calm but still irritated} ” Fine, keep the….lighter…I just want to pick-up my friend and get out of this place…Can you hold the lighter for me until I get my friend?”

Supervisor and Me: {in unison} “NO!”

Of Little Girls and cylons

My second Battlestar Galactica fan video BSG morgan pic “Of Little Girls and Cylons” is up on the scifi.com website. Yeah!!!!

Actually, I was really hoping it wouldn’t make the cut because I wanted to re-edit the thing differently and display it here. I am still going to edit the video. Actually, I am nearly done I need Morgan to film a scene for me next week but the scifi channel rules say I can not display my videos anywhere but on the scifi site. Which means I can’t display it here. I will figure something out.

Go take a look.

..And leave me a comment on the video…You know Marsha thrives on comments.

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica. It’s returning on Sunday on the SciFi channel……Yeah!!!! I love this show.  I love the drama. I love the darkness. I love the tension between the characters. I love the lack of human perfection. Humanity is on the edge of extinction. When you screw up, sometimes returning from the mistake is nearly impossible.

Bucky Covington

Bucky Covington

As everyone knows….I am addicted to country music. It’s my preferred genre to listen to while driving to work. I have a 40 minute drive to get to the Airport.

It’s always a thrill when I hear a new song that has meaning to me. I was driving to work a few days ago and listening to sirius satelite radio when I hear the song “A Different World”. It was a nice song. I liked it. It brought back memories of my childhood. My first instinct was to briefly glance up at my receiver and see who was singing. To my surprise it was Bucky Covington. Bucky was a contestant on American Idol 2006. He was one of my favorites. (I had a lot of favorites. I wanted them all to win.)
For your listening pleasure, please click on the following myspace link and listen to Bucky Covington’s song “A Different World.”

EDIT: Want more information on Bucky? I have the source for you. Visit Here!

Check Engine Light

Grrrrr!!!! I was driving to work yesterday and noticed the little check engine light is on in my car….Please don’t let it be anything serious. I don’t want to have to spend a lot of money to get something fixed…..

I’m off to shower and then find a car place to tell me what is wrong with my car.

EDIT: I HAVE AN O2 sensor out. getting it fixed on Monday.
